UPDATE JULY 2006
This plant has been reduced in size due to cutting being taken to increas stock for hardiness experiments to take place this winter. The plant remains in a unprotected bed and recieves no protection of any means from the full effects of the UK winter. This plant suffers a little winter damage which shows as pad die back. I would say that a quarter of the pads are lost during the winter but are quickly replaced during the spring/summer growing period. This plant tolerated tempratures down to -12 degrees celsius during the winter of 2005/06 while wet. A few pads died during the april frosts but the plant soon recovered and now looks very healthy with numerious new pads growing. Even though the plant dies back slightly in winter it still proves to tolerate the UK winter with very little problems.
